Being that a nail technician sees a particular client nails almost as much as they do, they are quick to spot changes in the appearance of their nails. When it comes to changes in the appearance of nails, High Point residents should be aware that this could be a telling sign of someone’s health. Most of the conditions associated with changes in a nail’s appearance are significant, and not something that can be dismissed like a common cold or allergies. Most of these conditions change the color of the nails themselves, or the structure of the nail. It is important to note that not everyone experiencing these nail conditions have related health effects, as everyone’s nails are different.
White nails
When the majority of a nail is white, similar to that of healthy nail tips, it could be a sight that there is a problem with the person’s liver. In instances with liver problems and white colored nails, High Point residents should be aware that an individual’s fingers will also be off colored or known medically as jaundiced.
Yellow Nails
An individual can get yellowing nails when they are chronic smokers, but if an individual is not a smoker by nature, it could mean that someone is dealing with a fungal infection. When it comes to yellow nails, High Point residents should be aware that in rare cases it could be issues related to thyroid or lung disease, as well as diabetes.
Nails with Tiny Ripples
Typically, nails are supposed to be smooth, but this is not always the case. In some instances, a client can have rippled or pitted nails, in which tiny impressions or shallow holes appear on the body of the nails. High Point residents should be made aware that this condition is commonly associated with psoriasis or inflammatory arthritis.
